We want to take this opportunity to thank all the students that volunteered with us this past school year. Your time, energy and compassion helped make a lasting difference in our community, and we hope your experience was as meaningful and transformational as it was impactful.
Together, thousands of individual students and hundreds of groups supported our Meals Program, Community Ambassador efforts in keeping our streets clean and safe and contributed to our HEAT program. You volunteered over 5,000 hours at GLIDE and served over 450,000 meals over the school year.
From elementary through university level; local, national and even international schools, each of you brought care, dedication and heart to your service.
Whether you directly or indirectly interacted with our clients’ serving meals, bussing trays, chopping veggies, making PB&J sandwiches and lunch bags, or even walking along with our Community Ambassadors, you were part of a bigger picture of helping ensure dignity, nourishment and connection for those we serve.
To our graduating students – congratulations on this incredible milestone. As you begin the next chapter in your life, keep the spirit of service alive through volunteering. It is a powerful way to stay grounded, build connection and continue being the change wherever you go!

This is a day where you connect with one another, give back and take pride in the neighborhood you share! At Glide, you will help serve meals or walk with our ambassadors to support clean and safe streets.

GLIDE believes deeply in the importance of youth volunteerism. Youth volunteerism has been linked to higher graduation rates, an increased sense of agency in the world, and helps young people grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
Volunteering at GLIDE provides students with an opportunity to directly support people in their community to increase exposure to diverse communities, build empathy, and inspire a lifelong commitment to volunteerism.
GLIDE accepts student groups of up to 25 students for youth ages 10 and above. For more information on our minor volunteer policies, including requirements and chaperone-to-student ratios, take a look at our Minor Volunteer Policy.
All minors must have a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian. Our Minor Waiver is available here.
You may contact via volteam@glide.org or (415) 674-6081 if any questions come up during the sign-up process.

This coming academic year, we are excited to launch a new youth volunteer program Monday – Friday designed to pair volunteerism with a deepened service-learning experience.
Building on volunteer opportunities in our Free Daily Meals Program, this age-appropriate extended service-learning experience invites young people to explore the history of GLIDE, the Tenderloin, learn about communities we serve, and why people come to GLIDE for support.
Through an educational module, hands-on service, and guided reflection, participants will build empathy, deepen their understanding of San Francisco, learn about the drivers of inequality, and why community service is so essential.
This experience is 1 hour longer than our typical volunteer experience. Please reach out if you’re interested! We will also provide a suggested reading list to help youth learn more about diversity, inclusion, and resilience.
To sign up for the new Youth Program, reach out to us at volteam@glide.org.

GLIDE’s integrated comprehensive services, advocacy initiatives, and inclusive community empower individuals, families, and children to achieve stability and thrive. GLIDE is on the forefront of addressing some of the most pressing issues including poverty, housing shortages and homelessness, and racial and social injustice.
We operate the largest single-site volunteer program in San Francisco! Last year over 25,000 volunteers came to GLIDE to help us serve 1,700 meals a day and beautify our neighborhood through neighborhood clean-ups and outreach. We could not do this work without the incredible volunteers who play an essential role in providing dignity, joy, and belonging to our most vulnerable communities. Join us in building a community where everyone is welcomed and celebrated exactly as they are- volunteer with us today!
Please do not hesitate to reach out to the Community Engagement and Volunteer Team at volteam@glide.org or (415) 674-6081 with any questions.
